1 August - 31 October 2010, The Drawing Wall #2, Shepparton Art Gallery.
The artwork at Shepparton Regional Gallery is a wall painting of an oriental carpet. Its formation alludes to both the architecture of an ancient step pyramid, and carpeted steps bearing nobility, royalty or religious figures, seen in historical European painting. In its representation of a garden of paradise, and function as a prayer mat, the oriental carpet is capable of going beyond the limits of an interior architectural space. The magic of this enigmatic, transcendental object could be paralleled with that of painting itself, in its trick of transforming a two-dimensional wall into a three-dimensional object in space.
A limited edition poster will accompany the exhibition.
